The NPOtagset defines the location and topics of a nonprofit organization – thus making them searchable in a better way.
As you might know, .org ist the typical domain ending for organisations, but that does not make clear in which country this organization is active (which would be the case if it used .it for Italy or . in for India ….).
EXAMPLE
An organization working on HIV / AIDS prevention being located in Brindisi, Italy, would put the following tag sequence on its website:
>> NPOtagset it brindisi hiv aids
And someone who wants to search, which organizations in Italy work on these two topics would use the search string
>> “npotagset it” hiv aids
Someone living in brindisi and wanting to get an overview about all NPOs being active there (maybe to start a voluntary work in this city) would use the search string
>> “npotagset it brindisi”
PLEASE NOTE
To avoid fraud (donations to someone who is not a registered charity organizations), there should be a link to a national or international NPO Directory after the NPOtagset proving that it is a registered organization.
DONATIONS IN KIND
can be aquired by an NPO if they put the IStagset (“We search for” – meaning “we need”) on the same website.
